The Role
Lark is seeking a talented hands-on Engineering Manager to join our growing team that is responsible for the real-time data ingestion pipeline that powers our conversations. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, strong leadership skills to manage all aspects of the team to include: hiring, mentoring, planning & working collaboratively across the organization. You will need to perform code reviews, be familiar with the latest best practices, proposing & reviewing technical designs.

As an example, the team will evaluate the data showing the user on a walk, recording a blood glucose reading. The next conversation they have with the app might include those data points. These events would be used to trigger other flows in real-time, or asynchronously, and sent to our data engineering team / data-lake for reporting.
 
What You'll Do
  • Work collaboratively across engineering, product, and project management teams to ensure projects are well communicated, aligned, and managed
  • Participate in the Agile development process, including scoping, technical design, estimation effort, coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, maintenance, and support
  • Own the deployments, oncall, monitor reliability and performance of all your services, ensure that we have comprehensive dashboards 
  • Collaborate with engineering technical program managers, product managers to ensure the services are developed according to specifications and needed timelines
  • Responsible for quality and testing for your services, making sure that everything is developed to the highest standards of quality with fully automated testing
  • Responsible for growing the team, hiring, mentoring, and coaching

What You'll Need

  • Be a strong technical collaborative leader with experience in building both backend services and applications dealing with real-time processing of data
  • Strong project management skills and experience with agile/scrum
  • Experience with real-time events processing at scale, such as Kafka and related technologies
  • Prior experience in Big Data streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, Apache Spark, or similar
  • Experiences with Apache Pinot, Apache Druid, ElasticSearch are also highly desirable
  • Extensive hands-on experience and ability to code and review code from your team
  • Experience working with an agile process
  • Experience with Java / Scala / Javascript / Typescript / Python
  • Expert knowledge of Go is a plus
  • Prior experience in AWS and Kubernetes is a big plus
  • B.S., M.S., or PhD. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 12+ years of experience in engineering 
  • 7+ years of specific experience with backend services 
  • 5+ years of experience as a lead or manager of a team
Working at Lark 
Lark offers the option to work remotely in the United States.  For Colorado Applicants only: minimum annual salary is $181,000 (minimum salary varies for other geographies). You may also be offered a bonus, stock options and/or benefits.  The company is headquartered in Mountain View, CA.
