The Role
We're hiring a talented Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our growing team where you'll help build and scale the intelligent engine that is interpreting the world's health sensor data and empowering people to live fitter and happier lives.
The team works on three critical areas of Lark's backend infrastructure:
  • Ingestion of user data from the app and integrated medical devices. The Lark app captures all data, to include fitness information, a blood sugar reading, or a recently consumed meal.  
  • Modularizing Lark's clinical programs. The team is responsible for infrastructure that makes all of Lark's core features completely configuration-driven so that we can scale the business to many more customers.
  • Fulfillment of medical devices. As part of Lark's clinical programs, many users are entitled to a medical device, such as a scale or glucose meter. 

What You’ll Do

  • Take ownership of Lark’s backend infrastructure, including our real-time data processing pipeline and medical device integration
  • Optimize how the app processes large streams of data by implementing complex event processing
  • Lead technical efforts to scale up existing systems using event-driven architecture and functional paradigms
  • Uphold best practices by performing code reviews and taking ownership of integration & end-to-end testing for the team’s backend infrastructure
  • Work cross-functionally and collaborate with other backend engineering teams and DevOps to ensure the reliability and scalability of our systems
  • Iterate on features based on product feedback and requests from partners and users

What You’ll Need

  • Experience with one or more of the following programming languages and systems: TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, Kafka, Serverless (esp. AWS Lambda), YAML, CloudFormation, DynamoDB, MySQL, Git, NodeJS
  • Proficiency with microservices architecture and testing frameworks
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with both non-technical and highly technical team members
  • Ability to learn fast and adapt based on feedback
  • (Bonus) Experience/Familiarity with functional programming paradigms: Haskell, F#, Erlang, Elixir, Clojure, Scala
  • Experience in sprint planning and working with Agile methodologies 
Working at Lark 
Lark offers the option to work remotely in the United States. For Colorado Applicants only: minimum annual salary is $144,000 (minimum salary varies for other geographies). You may also be offered a bonus, stock options and/or benefits. The company is headquartered in Mountain View, CA.
